Armand Petitjean, formerly of Coty, introduced Lancôme at the 1935 Brussels World's Fair with five fragrances released simultaneously, which was unusual for a debut.
The house moved into skincare and cosmetics early and is now better known for those, but the fragrance work continued: Trésor in 1990 and La Vie est Belle in 2012 were both major commercial successes, the latter among the top-selling women's fragrances of the last two decades.
