Ernest Daltroff was self-taught, and it shows in the work: Caron's classics are heavier and stranger than the Parisian norm of their day. Tabac Blond, in 1919, put leather and tobacco on a woman deliberately, at a moment when that read as scandalous.
The house is known for the fountains of loose powder in its Paris boutique and for a house accord built on carnation and rose. Pour Un Homme, a plain lavender-and-vanilla from 1934, has stayed in production ever since.
