Juan Famenias Floris, from Menorca, opened at 89 Jermyn Street in 1730 as a barber and comb-maker. The shop is still there, still run by his descendants, which makes it one of the longest unbroken family retail lines in London.
The house holds royal warrants and built its style on English restraint: clean citrus, soft florals and barbershop freshness rather than the heavier oriental work of its French contemporaries.
